Goodbye Singapore, Hello USA!

It has been almost a month since I left the sunny island and here I am finally getting down to blog despite having a pile of readings waiting to be done…

I’ve always heard about the different levels of emotion people will feel when they go on exchange and all and I think my low level (homesick) kicked in even before I left! But I’m glad I got over it as soon as I started travelling! Let’s hope it’ll stay that way.

Back to the day I left…

All these wonderful people who came down to say Bye before I left.

The hall friends, my BFFs, churchies!

My very sweet TJ girls who celebrated my birthday a few weeks before I left and now all came together to send me off too. :)

Moments before I entered the “departure” gate (cause what a horrible term), my annoying friends made me cry! (I told myself I cannot and will not cry!) I was really upset about having to say bye and all without having Pepper around and it didn’t help that my lil boy knew something was going on before I left and didn’t want to be around me :’( and so when they said that, it totally triggered it!

I had like a 30hrs flight to New York cause of the freaking long stopover in Doha (8hours). Twas a painful experience! I hate sitting on the plane.

The first leg of the flight was not too bad with the roomy seats but the second leg was just horrible and it was double the time for the first. The seats were squashed and there were so many people on board. I hope I will have a better flying experience when I head back in January.

Our dinner from SGP to Doha. Not too bad but the yoghurt and chickpeas at the side was horrid!

Stopover at Doha for 8hours. This was the view accompanying us as we slept in the airport. It was freezing in there and I’m glad we took the blankets before we left if not we would have died there.

Reading the notes which the friends left me :)

We had a complimentary meal at the Doha airport but it wasn’t fantastic. The breakfast served on board was amazing though! I loved it!

My next meal on board which was not too bad either. Somehow, I’ve this liking for airplane food :p

I was so glad that 30hours has finally passed and I’m finally in New York City!

(check out the lovely sun rays)

It was warm but with cool breeze from the wind when we arrived at JFK. Wished it was a little colder though.

Took a cab all the way down to Manhattan before we checked in to our accommodation. We placed a booking for a room on Airbnb.com and managed to find a place on W38th which seemed like a pretty convenient location.

Read about my NYC accommodation here

Got our phone plan after we checked in and boy we were cheated! There was a T-Mobile store near the place we were staying at and we didn’t know it was a retailer. Hence, we went there and bought a line not knowing anything. The freaking assholes charged us more, gave us a New Jersey line (we were in New York hello!) and 2 days later my number changed by itself. Was having so much problems with the line! Thank goodness I didn’t sign up for a monthly plan with them. What a horrible experience!

That aside…

Was heading to Times Square when we came across Bryant Park and there was a screening going on that day, hence the crowd.

<3 Carousels!

After a few wrong turns here and there we finally got to Times Square!

Spot us! (bottom left corner)

Mega huge F21!

Weird candyman walking around

After the long flight and feeling all eeky, we didn’t have much energy to explore anywhere else and decided to head back to the apt, hence, the limited number of pictures.

Hopefully I can find more time outta school to continue updating this space!

(updated)

Day 2 in NYC, we met up with C. who came down from Boston to join us!
1st stop for the day was for me to go try Shake Shack and strike it off my to-do list!

Finally here!

It started raining and hence the queue was pretty short but it was still a pain to be waiting in the rain! None of us had our brolly with us and it was horrible…

This is us before the rain.

This is after the rain.

Think we were in the rain for at least an hour!

They took our orders wrongly at the beginning and instead of 3 burgers they gave us 2 mikshakes. I had to re-queue to order again and it was such a long wait… IN THE POURING RAIN

Hence, please forgive this blurry picture. We were cold, drenched hungry and tired.

Headed home to change and went down NYU

NYU Business School

“Let us raise a standard to which the wise and the honest can repair.

The event is in the hand of God”

Twas a really really long walk to Magnolia Bakery. I am so not used to all the walking Americans do!

Was stuffed and so I only got a Red Velvet Cupcake for supper. Biggest regret!

This is us that night indulging in our “supper”

My RVC which was amazing! Definitely going back there EOY just to have this and the banana pudding which I didn’t manage to try

ZM’s hummingbird cake which she liked but I didn’t

C’s very healthy yoghurt parfait
